2021 BisonBison
Film Festival Postponed

The 2021 BisonBison Film Festival: A Student Competition will be postponed; a necessary decision, considering the current world-wide pandemic. “This was a difficult decision, but the Board of Directors felt this was the best move for the Festival and the film students for this school year,” said Board president, Christina Rich-Splawn.

Considering the necessary remote classes most schools are conducting during the pandemic, the limited ability to gather film crews because of social distancing, and the economic downturn for many of the businesses and organizations which support the Festival, the board members believe this is the most responsible decision for the 2021 festival..

“We did not make this choice lightly. We have been watching the reports from universities, colleges and tech schools, following the current science data and recommendations from government health agencies very closely. In April, we were able to quickly move the 2020 festival from an in-person event to an on-line event to allow the student films to reach an audience. The question of what to do for the 2021 festival was discussed by the board members until we concluded to postpone it,” said Rich-Splawn. She also praised the board for their rapid decision making.

In addition to considering the students and school, the viewpoint of the festival’s sponsors and supporters was taking into the decision-making process. “We are very grateful for the past promotional support from our local and regional small businesses and non-profit groups but acknowledge this will be a difficult year for these organizations to fund us,” said Rich-Splawn. “The donors make the Festival possible through their generosity. To make a decision about moving forward with the 2021 festival would not be prudent without taking into account what is also happening to them.”

The BisonBison board will continue to monitor the COVID-19 epidemic’s effects on film programs in the area it serves. A determination for the 2022 BisonBison Film Festival will be later this year.
